Finding software for your Nokia 6300

As some of you might know I moved from a Nokia E60 to the 6300 some time ago. I still use the E60 as my company phone.

The E60 spoiled me. As a true Symbian phone it was easy to find software for it, Opera has a kick-ass browser for Symbian. Opera does have a browser for Series 40 (which, amongst others, is the 6300), but it’s a bit basic, plus you won’t see the site as it supposed to as it translates it before showing it to you. This is fine for something, not so fine for others.

The reason software for the 6300 is so hard to find is that Series 40 is not a “true” operating system. You cant write complete applications as you can for Symbian. The closest you can get is java.

Im sure there are good java-applications out there that runs fine on the 6300. But there are just too many crap ones to wade through to find first.

Today I found a Worms game that supposedly could run on my 6300. After jumping through a few hoops I got it on my phone. (On a side note; I cant understand why mobile-software-sites insist on you downloading their software from your phone via WAP. Makes no sense.) And it ran fine. Gameplay was fluid and I killed a lot of worms. The only problem was that the game only showed on ~1/3 of the screen. It was like the game thought my screen was only 1/3 of the size it really is. Stupid.

Searching for Nokia 6300 software on Google doesn’t reveal much either. More spam than ham. Nokia does have a marketplace for software but as you can see if you follow the link, the top 10 is mostly card-games and dictionaries. Number 10 is a java-application that will show a large spot on the screen in either white or a color, and thus enabling you to use the phone as a flashlight. Somehow it doesn’t bode well for my quest for some decent applications if that application is number 10 on Nokias own software list.

I have found many pieces of software that run on the Nokia 6300… including worms 2 that runs full screen, medal of honour, die hard 4.0, insaniaquarium, bubble bobble, bomber man.

All you have to do is go to http://phone.mobile9.com/ select Nokia and then select Nokia 6233, which has the same resolution as the 6300 and the same sort of sotware. Then on the right where it says ‘Nokia 6233 downloads’ click games and software.. and you can find most of what you need in .jar format there!

to adjust the volume, you might want to try to adjust the equalizer of your phone. it works, it even improves the volume of ring tones, and speaker phone mode as well.

Folks, this way too low volume problem of the N6300 is annoying me very much! Is it really true that all of the 6300s have got the same problem? What about Nokia’s reaction? Anyone tried to confront them with it? Beautiful phone, but volume really sucks!

You haven’t replied to these comments? By now I guess you have got a horde of softwares for your cell. So could you tell my about its availability and usefulness? Need to know before buying it.

The Nokia 6300 runs games and applications at a resolution of 320×240. Because other phones have different screen resolutions, the games are made for them have a different screen resolution, for example a resolution of 128×128, that is a square screen. When the game is put on the Nokia 6300, it will only show a bit of the screen because that’s how it was made, if that makes any sense. Anyway, i have found a couple of good websites to get games and applications for this phone:

To all the people that have problems with Nokia PC Suite & trying to transfer files with it.Best tip,purchase a USB Bluetooth dongle & never use PC Suite again.The dongle will always transfer files etc directly from within Windows.

i have a nokia6300.i plug the usb in the phone and computer and i selecte the mode i wish to use ( nokia mode,data transfer,mass storage) and a bubble pops up on my computer saying this usb device is not reconised or installed,but i plug it into my computer downstaiirs and it works

Is it possible to update software of nokia 6300? If possible, is the new version contains special functions which i am not entertaining yet? I am facing a problem while selecting my playlist in my music player. It takes quite long time to play. I am so dissapointed with nokia 6300. The newer and cheaper nokia models contain such features.so it is worthless to buy nokia 6300. So i suggest to buy any other models than nok 6300. So it would be better stop supplying this model for manufacturer.

hey my nokia 6300 can can play tv shows like smallville, heroes and star wars to name a few also i just put some movies into it such as Twilight and Bolt. I have also almost a hundred games (some of them got some errors whenever i try to play them however i can open it) i have also a bluetooth hack supported software, and of course i got 800++ m4a’s type of file under my music folder… not much coz i got only 2gigabyte of memory…

I had problem with Nokia N61 low volume. It was very difficult to foillow conversation, if there was any background noise. I dis-assembled the N61 phone, and stretched the tiny tiny springs that presses against the piezoelectric disc used as speaker. Either the springs got “tired” or then there is still a a volume bug in Nokia Symbian based products

Hi recently purchased a nokia 6300. My brother installed google chrome as its browser but when i went to youtube and tried to play d videos, all d browser did was connect me to a never ending network.
Sometimes some site ask me to install latest player into my phone.

My nokia 6300 music player not working. It’s becuz of bug or virus or any java error. All people saying no need antivirus for java phone. But no one giving me information where i can get anti virus for java phone? i get few funny and annoying anti virus for nokia 6300 on http://gallery.mobile9.com but all useless.
